Schedule and section of the reversible operation
The reversible lane system will be in effect from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on that Sunday, using all available lanes exclusively in the direction toward San José.
The affected section will run between Pozón, in Orotina, and the toll station at the Ciudad Colón junction, covering approximately 47 kilometers.
To enable the operation, traffic toward the Pacific (in the direction of Caldera) will be suspended from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., preventing head-on encounters and reducing the risk of accidents.
Purpose of the measure
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) and the National Concessions Council stated that the reversible system is implemented to facilitate the mass return of travelers coming from Puntarenas and Guanacaste to the Central Valley.
The date coincides with Easter Sunday, just before the return to school and work for much of the population, when one of the highest traffic volumes of the year is recorded on this highway.
The measure is part of special traffic operations applied during long holidays and vacation periods on Route 27.
Recommendations for drivers
Authorities recommend that those needing to travel toward Caldera or the Pacific plan their trips outside the reversible hours or use alternative routes such as Route 3 (Atenas–Aguacate–Orotina), Route 1 via Cambronero, or Route 239 via Ciudad Colón–Puriscal–Turrubares.
Within the reversible section, the maximum speed will be 60 km/h, and traffic police will be present to regulate flow and ensure compliance with temporary signage.
Drivers are advised to maintain a safe distance, avoid sudden lane changes, and follow instructions from signs and officers.
