By the end of 2025, Costa Rica’s total exports of goods and services reached a historic figure of $35.243 billion, representing an 11% increase compared to 2024 and an additional $3.634 billion in foreign trade revenue. This data was confirmed by the Promotora de Comercio Exterior de Costa Rica (PROCOMER) and the Banco Central de Costa Rica (BCCR) in their latest official reports.

Breakdown Between Goods and Services

The growth was driven by both components of the export sector:

Goods exports: $22.731 billion, a 14% increase compared to 2024
Services exports (excluding travel): $12.512 billion, growing by 8%

This performance highlights Costa Rica’s diversified export model and its competitiveness in global markets.

Sectors Driving the Growth

Several key sectors were responsible for this record performance:

Medical devices: 31% of total exports, exceeding $10.8 billion
Business services: 21% of exports, showing the strength of knowledge-based services
Technology and ICT services: 8%
Traditional agriculture: pineapple (4%) and bananas (3%)

These figures reflect a successful strategy that combines advanced manufacturing, high-value services, and traditional agricultural exports.

Importance for Costa Rica’s Economy
