Heineken makes Costa Rica the center of its commercial operations in Central America

Heineken has made Costa Rica the hub of its commercial operations for Central America, following the acquisition of the beverage, food, and retail businesses of Florida Ice and Farm Company (FIFCO) in the region.

Regional center in Costa Rica

The Dutch company officially launched “Heineken Costa Rica,” the brand under which it will integrate the operations acquired from FIFCO in Costa Rica and other Central American markets.
From Costa Rica, Heineken will coordinate commercial strategies, brand portfolios, and regional expansion in Central America under a hub model for the region.
The decision is based on Costa Rica’s combination of skilled talent, stability, and experience as a platform for regional business.

Acquisition of FIFCO’s businesses

Heineken completed the acquisition of FIFCO’s beverage and retail businesses in Central America at the beginning of 2026, after obtaining all necessary regulatory and corporate approvals.
The transaction, valued at approximately $3.2 billion according to market analyses, includes assets, brands, and commercial networks in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Guatemala, and other countries.
With this move, Heineken adds iconic brands such as Imperial beer to its portfolio and consolidates its presence in beverages and retail points of sale.

Leadership and operational continuity

As part of the agreement, FIFCO’s current CEO, Rolando Carvajal, will join Heineken to lead the combined operation in Central America, ensuring management continuity.
The company has stated that the integration of teams and processes will be gradual throughout 2026 to ensure stability for employees, clients, and suppliers.
Heineken has publicly highlighted its confidence in Costa Rica’s ecosystem, legal security, and quality of available talent.

Expected impact for the country and the region

Analysts believe the operation will strengthen Costa Rica’s position as a hub for foreign investment and decision-making for multinational companies in Central America.
The consolidation is expected to create opportunities in employment, innovation, new product development, and the strengthening of regional supply chains.
For the beer and beverage market, the acquisition represents greater vertical integration and more intense competition in premium and value-added segments.
