Tolls suspended on Route 32 and Florencio del Castillo Highway during Holy Week

Toll collection on Route 32 (Braulio Carrillo) and the Florencio del Castillo Highway will be suspended between noon on Holy Thursday and 6:00 a.m. on Holy Saturday during Holy Week 2026, in order to ease traffic for holiday travelers.

Toll-free dates and times

The National Road Council (CONAVI) announced that the measure will be in effect from 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, until 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4.
During this period, no tolls will be charged at the Zurquí toll booth on Route 32 toward Limón, nor at the Route 2 toll on the Florencio del Castillo Highway, which connects the Central Valley with Cartago.
For the rest of the year, toll collection will continue as normal, unless other special measures are officially announced.

Purpose of the suspension

The measure aims to facilitate traffic flow during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, reducing queues and waiting times at toll stations.
By eliminating the need to stop and pay, authorities seek to streamline travel to and from the Central Valley toward the Caribbean region and Cartago.
Officials emphasize that this is a temporary measure for Holy Week, intended to improve the travel experience for thousands of drivers.

Call for cautious driving

Although tolls will not be charged, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) and CONAVI urge drivers to reduce speed when passing through toll stations due to the presence of structures and personnel.
They warn that speeding in these areas increases the risk of collisions with booths and other infrastructure.
Authorities also remind drivers to plan their trips, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, and respect road signs at all times.
