The U.S. biopharmaceutical company MSD inaugurated its second Regulatory Operations Center (ROC) worldwide in Costa Rica, an expansion that will generate 30 new jobs in 2026 and up to 40 in 2027 for highly qualified professionals.
New global regulatory center in Costa Rica
MSD opened the new ROC in City Place, Santa Ana, from where it will manage regulatory and specialized processes related to the development and registration of medicines and vaccines for different markets worldwide.
This is one of only two centers of this type that the company has globally, alongside the one in Prague, Czech Republic, placing Costa Rica in a strategic position within the company’s international network.
The operation corresponds to MSD’s fifth expansion in the country since 2017.
Specialized jobs and required profiles
The new ROC will generate 30 jobs during 2026, with projections of reaching 40 positions in 2027.
The roles sought include professionals in medical sciences, pharmacy, chemistry, engineering, and technology, as well as specialists in data, artificial intelligence, and hyper-automation.
These positions will focus on accelerating and optimizing regulatory processes so that MSD products reach patients in different countries more efficiently.
MSD as a services hub in Costa Rica
Since 2017, MSD has added teams in Costa Rica for Global Business Services, pharmacovigilance, global data operations, and clinical data management, currently surpassing 550 jobs in the country.
With the new ROC, the company strengthens its role as a high-value services hub, expanding the type of strategic functions carried out from Costa Rica for the corporation.
This growth reflects MSD’s confidence in local talent and Costa Rica’s business environment.
Official statements
Christian Swirgsde, MSD Regulatory Operations Manager, stated that the ROC in Costa Rica strengthens the company’s ability to accelerate and optimize regulatory processes and work more collaboratively on a global level.
Interim Minister of Foreign Trade Indiana Trejos highlighted that this fifth reinvestment by MSD confirms Costa Rica as a competitive hub for high-value services.
Laura López, General Manager of PROCOMER, emphasized that the choice of the country to host this second regulatory center demonstrates the quality of Costa Rican talent and its ability to assume increasingly strategic roles in the pharmaceutical industry.
