About The Spanish Cultural Center in San José to Open “Impossible Maps”
The Spanish Cultural Center in San José will inaugurate Impossible Maps, a collective exhibition of contemporary Guatemalan art curated by Gabriel Rodríguez Pellecer. Opening on Thursday, June 5, the exhibition focuses on memory, identity, resistance, and the social tensions shaping Central America.
The exhibition brings together works by more than 20 artists working across visual arts, film, poetry, essays, performance, and sound art, creating a hybrid dialogue around violence, precariousness, and the region’s social, political, and economic uncertainty. Rather than attempting to define an entire artistic scene, the exhibition acts as a “reflection of the times,” exploring how art is created in complex contexts and with limited resources.
Participating artists include emerging talents such as Josseline Pinto, Edizon Cumes, and Evelyn Price, alongside established figures including Elda Figueroa and David Ramírez, with a total of 21 confirmed artists.
