Animalia Costarricense is a visual arts exhibition that will open on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the José Figueres Ferrer Cultural and Historical Center, located in Barrio Ayarós, Atenas, Costa Rica. The exhibition features 24 screen prints on paper, produced at Taller Gráfica Génesis, and focuses on the theme of Costa Rican wildlife and animal representation in contemporary art.
The exhibition brings together the work of 12 artists: Michael Picado, Fabio Herrera, Gabriela Catarinella, Rolando Garita, Florencia Urbina, Ricardo Alfieri, Sara Morales, Phillip Anaskin, Isidro Con Wong, Gabriel Riggioni, Carlos Tapia, and Virginia Vargas. The event is open to the public and forms part of the cultural programming of Costa Rica’s Ministry of Culture and Youth, promoting access to the arts and artistic interpretations of the country’s rich animal biodiversity.
Through contemporary screen-printing techniques, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the relationship between humans and the diverse animal species that inhabit Costa Rica. Each piece offers a unique artistic perspective on wildlife, highlighting both the beauty and cultural significance of the country’s fauna.
The collection serves as a creative reflection on biodiversity, encouraging viewers to appreciate the natural world through artistic expression.
The José Figueres Ferrer Cultural and Historical Center, which hosts the exhibition, is an institution of the Ministry of Culture and Youth dedicated to promoting art, culture, and historical memory.
