About the Performance:
This spectacular interdisciplinary production will bring together music, theater, and large-scale puppetry in a vibrant artistic celebration. The program features two iconic works: El retablo de Maese Pedro by Manuel de Falla, inspired by the adventures of Don Quixote, and The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns, presented in its orchestral version with two pianos.
The performance will be led by the renowned Filarmónica Joven de Colombia alongside Per Poc Cía. de Títeres, a company internationally recognized for its innovative large-format puppet productions.
Joining the cast will be Costa Rican soprano Cristina Mora and additional guest singers, all under the musical direction of Spanish harpsichordist and conductor Darío Tamayo.
A unique feature of this production is that the puppets for The Carnival of the Animals will be created in Costa Rica in collaboration with local artists. Inspired by the country’s extraordinary wildlife and flora, these original creations will add a distinctly Costa Rican identity to the performance.
The concert is co-produced with ¡Pura Clásica! of the University of Costa Rica and is supported by Bansbach and Yamaha Corporation Latin America. The event is also part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Manuel de Falla’s birth and supports Granada’s candidacy to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031.
