Table of Contents

San José, Costa Rica – France’s rich cultural and gastronomic heritage will take center stage this month with the arrival of the Mardi Gras – Festival à la Française. Considered the largest annual event organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry France Costa Rica (CCI France Costa Rica), this public celebration promises a weekend full of flavor, color, and tradition.

A New Home in the East of the Capital

For its 2026 edition, the festival brings exciting news: it moves to Centro Comercial Aleste, in Curridabat, changing its traditional venue from previous years. The event will take place on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, giving residents from the eastern part of the capital and visitors the opportunity to enjoy this cultural gathering in a refreshed setting.

Gastronomy, Entrepreneurship, and Family Atmosphere

Mardi Gras is designed to immerse visitors in an authentic French festive atmosphere. Throughout the weekend, attendees will find an extensive exhibition area. Entrepreneurs and established brands will offer a carefully curated selection of French-inspired products, ranging from the renowned pastries and cuisine of the European country to beverages and locally made goods.

In addition to the culinary offerings, the festival will feature entertainment, music, and recreational activities designed for the enjoyment of both adults and children.

Pétanque Country Tournament: Tradition in Play

One of the highlights of this edition will be the addition of a Pétanque Tournament, the classic French game of metal spheres that combines aim and strategy.

This special activity will take place on Saturday, March 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in one of the outdoor areas of the shopping center. The tournament is designed to be inclusive and friendly:

Participation: Teams of 3 people (mixed teams allowed).

Level: Open to participants of all levels, including beginners.

Incentives: Special prizes for winning teams.

Spots for the tournament are limited, so organizers urge interested participants to secure their place in advance.
