The Banda de Sarchí was founded in 2001 as part of the Francisco J. Orlich Technical High School in the canton of Sarchí. In its early years, the ensemble was mainly composed of percussion instruments and lyres, and over time it incorporated wind instruments, expanding its musical format.

Throughout its history, the band gained national recognition through its participation in cultural events and official parades, including notable appearances at the Festival of Lights. For several years, it was considered one of the country’s most representative student bands, until a temporary dissolution in 2017 due to limited institutional support.
