Hotel chains Marriott International and Hilton Worldwide have announced their expansion plans in Costa Rican territory, contemplating the inauguration of more than twenty properties over the next three years.
Costa Rica’s hotel landscape is gearing up for an unprecedented transformation. Marriott and Hilton, the two international chains with the strongest presence in the country, have confirmed an aggressive roadmap that will add 22 new properties to their national portfolio over the next three years.
This wave of openings, scheduled between 2026 and 2028, not only reinforces the confidence of global giants in the “Pura Vida” destination but also redefines the offering for business travelers, leisure travelers, and the luxury segment.
The closest phase for Marriott will begin in 2026 with a hybrid approach. In the heart of the capital, the conversion of the iconic D Sabana Hotel into a modern Four Points by Sheraton will set the pace for the sector in Barrio Don Bosco. Simultaneously, the El Coyol area in Alajuela will receive a Residence Inn, strategically designed for the growing flow of the industrial corridor and the Juan Santamaría airport.
However, the “crown jewel” is located in Guanacaste. By spring 2026, the integration of the JW Marriott All-Inclusive in Costa Elena is expected, a project that promises to raise the luxury lodging standard under the all-inclusive model. By 2027 and 2028, the chain projects adding 12 additional hotels, totaling more than 1,170 rooms to its overall offering.
