Global basketball legend and six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan has returned to Costa Rica once more, reaffirming the country as one of his preferred destinations for rest and high-level sporting activities.

According to officials from the General Directorate of Migration and Foreign Affairs, Jordan arrived this Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Juan Santamaría International Airport aboard his private jet, an iconic Gulfstream G650ER registered as N236MJ—an alphanumeric reference to his jersey number (23), his championship titles (6), and his initials.

The presence of “His Airness” in Costa Rican territory has become increasingly frequent over the last two years. In 2025 alone, Jordan entered the country at least three times (January, February, and April), adding to this new visit at the beginning of 2026.

The main reason that brings the former Chicago Bulls star back is his deep passion for offshore sport fishing. On this occasion, the American icon is heading to the Central Pacific to participate in the tenth anniversary edition of the Pelagic Rockstar Offshore tournament, headquartered at Marina Pez Vela in Quepos.

Jordan does not visit the country merely as a luxury tourist; his participation in international fishing tournaments aboard his yacht “Catch 23” generates significant economic impact in coastal regions. It is estimated that these sport fishing events inject millions of dollars into the local economy and help consolidate Costa Rica as the world’s epicenter for the discipline.

With his latest arrival, Michael Jordan joins the growing list of celebrities who choose “Pura Vida” not only as a temporary destination but as a recurring refuge where they can enjoy nature under the highest standards of exclusivity.
