The Costa Rican Caribbean will shine like never before at the National Arts Festival (FNA) 2025. From September 26 to October 5, the six cantons of Limón—Guápiles, Guácimo, Matina, Siquirres, Talamanca, and Limón centro—will transform into a grand cultural stage where more than 400 artists will celebrate the province’s diversity, heritage, and creativity.
The 17th edition of the FNA will spotlight projects selected through the Creation Fund for Artists of Limón (Fondo Limón), an initiative by the Ministry of Culture and Youth that allocated ₡20 million to finance proposals in music, theater, dance, literature, circus, and visual arts.
“The launch of Fondo Limón represented a real commitment to cultural decentralization and the recognition of the richness of our communities. The FNA 2025 provides us with a historic opportunity to turn every corner of the province into an artistic stage where local talent can be shown, promoted, and valued. We want Limón, more than just being the host, to be the engine and heart of Costa Rican art and culture during these nine days,” highlighted Jorge Rodríguez Vives, Minister of Culture and Youth.
The eleven selected projects were chosen based on technical and curatorial criteria, aligned with the conceptual pillars of the FNA 2025:
- Culture of Peace and Coexistence: initiatives that promote dialogue and community well-being.
- Identity and Living Heritage: projects that rescue and reinterpret cultural traditions.
- Diversity and Inclusion: accessible proposals committed to human rights.
- Innovation and Artistic Experimentation: creations that integrate new technologies and formats.
The FNA Limón 2025 will offer more than 80 artistic proposals in multiple venues: parks, cultural centers, beaches, and emblematic sites such as Balvanero Vargas Park, Los Baños Beach, and the G&E Chocolate Adventure Company.
The opening ceremony will feature Elena Umaña, while the closing event will have Toledo. Additionally, groups such as Swing en 4, Cantoamérica, Voodoo, Shel Dixon, and Berenice will perform, along with theatrical productions like La nica by Cristina Bruno—an adaptation of the work by the late César Meléndez—Sacha Wasi: a house in the jungle, and The Swan. There will also be dance and circus performances, film screenings, and community workshops.
With this edition, the National Arts Festival not only celebrates Caribbean creativity but also reaffirms Limón as a benchmark of diversity and artistic expression for all of Costa Rica.
