Juan Santamaría Museum Offers the Educational Community Its Guided Educational Tour Service for the 2025 Academic Year

San José, March 7, 2025 – The Juan Santamaría Historical Cultural Museum (MHCJS) informs the national educational community of the availability of its permanent free guided educational tour service for the 2025 academic year, aimed at student groups of all educational levels, as well as organized public groups.

The guided tours are led by an education and Costa Rican history professional from the MHCJS, supported by trained volunteers. The educational visits include themed exhibitions on the 1856-1857 National Campaign and its significance in shaping Costa Rican identities. Additionally, they feature tours of both temporary and permanent exhibitions at the MHCJS, as well as a visit to the rooftop of the Old Alajuela Barracks building, where visitors can learn more about local history.

This service allows students to become familiar with history in a way that makes learning in the classroom more engaging. For the general public, it provides a broader perspective on the 1856-1857 National Campaign, from within a building that has housed the MHCJS for 50 years and holds fascinating stories, said María Otárola Luna, director of the Juan Santamaría Historical Cultural Museum.

How to Schedule a Guided Educational Tour at the Juan Santamaría Historical Cultural Museum?

Those interested in scheduling a visit can contact the MHCJS via email at cultura@mhcjs.go.cr or call 2441-4775, ext. 115.

It is also available for smaller groups with specific interests, such as history, art, architecture, and tourism, among others. Tours are offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays by prior arrangement.

All MHCJS services are free and accessible to the general public. The museum’s opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Additionally, the museum features the Luis Ferrero Acosta Bookstore, which offers books from the MHCJS Publishing House at affordable prices, as well as materials for all audiences, including coloring books and comics related to the 1856-1857 National Campaign.
