Ministry of Culture and Youth Launches Talent Registration for the BRETE Employment Platform

Artists and cultural professionals from across Costa Rica will now be able to apply for positions within the Artistic Regime through the National Employment System of the National Employment Agency via the www.brete.cr platform.

Registration is open to both current public employees and members of the general public.

San José, June 24, 2026. As part of its efforts to modernize, streamline, and democratize access to employment opportunities in the cultural sector, the Ministry of Culture and Youth (MCJ) has announced that recruitment for positions under the Artistic Regime will now be managed exclusively through the National Employment System platform operated by the National Employment Agency at www.brete.cr.

From now on, all vacancies within this regime will be published and processed exclusively through this digital platform. The Ministry is therefore encouraging all artists and cultural professionals interested in joining the MCJ to register as soon as possible.

The Artistic Regime includes five artistic specialties:

  • Audiovisual Arts
  • Performing Arts
  • Graphic Arts
  • Musical Arts
  • Visual Arts

The recruitment process is currently open until June 26 for the position of Civil Service Artistic Director I – Musical Arts Specialty at the National Music Education System (SINEM), Limón campus.

« The integration of Artistic Regime recruitment into the BRETE platform represents an important step toward democratizing cultural employment in Costa Rica. We want the talent from the five artistic specialties that enrich our country to have direct, transparent, and efficient access to positions within the Ministry. We encourage both current public servants and the general public to register at www.brete.cr. This free platform offers cultural professionals an opportunity to place their talent at the service of our country’s cultural development, » said Sally Molina Villalobos, Acting Minister of Culture and Youth.

This new recruitment system complies with Circular MIDEPLAN-AME-UEP-CIRC-0003-2023.

What is the Artistic Regime?

The Artistic Regime is governed by Title IV of the Civil Service Statute. It encompasses five artistic specialties and regulates the employment of professionals who are part of Costa Rica’s official artistic institutions and ensembles.

Unlike many public recruitment processes, these competitions are open not only to current government employees but also to any member of the public who meets the artistic qualifications required for each position.

In addition to publishing job vacancies, the platform also links users to training opportunities designed to strengthen their professional skills and improve their employability.

Step 1: Visit www.brete.cr and complete your professional profile registration on the BRETE platform.
