About The Divine Comedy Illustrated by Salvador Dalí

Temporary Exhibition – Second Floor
100 engravings made using etching and lithography techniques form one of the most important graphic collections by Salvador Dalí.

The exhibition is part of the Cultural Work of FUNIBER and presents an edition illustrated by Dalí, created using the technical possibilities of printmaking. It combines medieval prose with his surrealist vision of one of the most important works of world literature: The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri.

It is divided into three sections: Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise, the three realms Dante journeys through during his voyage.

  • Inferno: Descent into Hell, a space where the damned suffer punishment for their sins.
  • Purgatory: Ascent to Mount Purgatory, where souls that are not yet saved must atone and repent for their sins to obtain divine grace.
  • Paradise: Ascent to Heaven, reaching divine glory in the presence of God.

The exhibition has traveled to 11 countries and is being presented in Costa Rica for the first time.
It is presented by the Jade and Pre-Columbian Culture Museum of the National Insurance Institute (INS), in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in Costa Rica and the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER).

Open to the public from March 7 to May 25
