The Ibero-American Theater Festival Costa Rica (FITCR) will hold its first edition from April 10 to April 19, 2026, in San José, bringing together theater companies from across Ibero-America in a new platform dedicated to artistic exchange and the promotion of theater in the region.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Youth, the festival will feature 24 theater companies (12 international and 12 Costa Rican) and offer a diverse program including performances, workshops, professional meetings, and training activities for artists, students, and the general public.
This inaugural edition is dedicated to the Chilean–Costa Rican theater master Lucho Barahona, honoring his legacy and his significant contribution to the development of performing arts in Costa Rica. The festival also aims to strengthen cultural dialogue between theater creators from different countries and position Costa Rica as a meeting point for the performing arts in Ibero-America.
