At the beginning of the year, I took a short trip to Cartago; I planned on taking a couple of shots of the Basilica, the ruins, and other iconic sites of the ancient metropolis.
I was leaving with my camera and cellphone in hand when I began descending toward the stone where the image of the Virgen de los Ángeles had appeared, when I realized that Ángelo was calling me. I turned back toward him and recorded the interaction below.
Ángelo is from Limón, proud of his province and his black roots; he showed me the photos of the Limón Carnival that he had taken last August. Ángelo wasted no time telling me about his beloved province and sharing fragments of his childhood, such as his time staying with his grandmother and how, even as a child, he traveled to Turrialba—the canton that serves as a connection between Limón and Cartago.
Thank you, Ángelo; it is for and because of people like you that I created this blog.
