“The Audition” tells the story of Nina, a newly graduated actress in search of her first opportunity, like any young professional. To achieve this, she goes to the most important theater in the capital to audition for the greatest playwright of her generation. Her performance includes Nora’s final monologue from A Doll’s House by Ibsen, Ophelia’s madness monologue from Hamlet by Shakespeare, the monologue of Mary Stuart confronting Elizabeth I of England by Schiller, Lulu by Wedekind, and the final scene from Three Sisters by Chekhov.
This stage production features two wonderful actors: Douglas Cubero as the playwright, Chekhov, and Alice García as Nina. Under the direction of María Bonilla, the play revisits some of the most iconic characters in theater history, using a comedic tone while maintaining strong relevance to current events in Costa Rica through the scenes between the author and the actress.
