Guillermo Madriz, General Director of TNCR, stated: “In 2025, we will bring five significant theatrical projects to this venue, and we are pleased to begin with the play ‘Infierno’ by Ailyn Morera Ugalde, the winner of the 19th National Contest of Unpublished Dramaturgy. We invite the public to enjoy this cultural offering that celebrates national talent and highlights several relevant aspects of Costa Rican society.”
Directed by Paula Rojas Amador, the play “Infierno” provides an extensive view of national reality, reflecting the experiences of individuals not just in their immediate surroundings, but also in their inner world. The director shared her insights, saying, “We’d be surprised how many times we’ve walked through ‘Hell’ thinking we were at home. They taught us to call it ‘pura vida,’ like an extinct mantra. We close our eyes, denying the inner procession we carry. What can we do?”
“The creative process behind “Infierno” has been, for the artistic team and myself, a journey through our own stories, memories, and aspirations as a country. From neighborhood life to the joy of playing outside until dusk, the local corner shop, and the present day—the audience will find in ‘Infierno’ a unifying reality and a sensitive work crafted by an excellent group of artists, who invite us to question the future of our country, families, and children through space, sound, video, and performance,” she concluded.
The cast includes Ana Ulate Sancho, Natalia Chacón Taylor, Gabriel Araya Hernández, and Ana Beatriz Fernández González.
