The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE) has officially announced the return of one of the most beloved and multicultural events in the technical and scientific region: the CATIE International Fair 2026.

After a pause that left a gap in the canton’s cultural calendar, the CATIE campus will dress up for the occasion on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, 2026. The event promises to be a meeting point where science, tradition, and international solidarity converge.

The fair is not a casual event; it has its roots in the 1980s, originally promoted by the group “Las Damas Panamericanas.” What began as a small food sale to raise funds has evolved into a pillar of local tourism.

Historically, the funds raised during these two days are allocated to social welfare causes, directly supporting:

Educational institutions in the canton.

Local sports associations.

Community organizations in Turrialba.

Although the detailed agenda will be revealed in the coming weeks, the essence of the fair remains intact. Attendees will be able to enjoy:

Global Gastronomy: A journey through the flavors of the various countries that make up CATIE’s academic community.

Commercial Showcase: Spaces for local entrepreneurs and artisans who will display the best of regional production.

Culture and Art: Artistic performances and exhibitions reflecting the multicultural richness of the research center.

Family Atmosphere: Activities designed for all ages in the natural and scenic environment of the campus.
