Afro-tropical August: Limón Hosts the 2025 National Arts Festival

Table of Contents

From September 26 to October 5, 2025, Limón and its neighboring cantons will pulse with music, dance, theater, visual arts, and community traditions during the fifteenth edition of the National Arts Festival (FNA2025). Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Youth (MCJ) through the Center for Artistic and Cultural Production (CPAC), this festival decentralizes culture by offering free events across Pococí, Guácimo, Matina, Siquirres, Limón, and Talamanca.

Bringing Art to the Communities

FNA2025 reaffirms its mission to make art a right for all Costa Ricans by providing:

  • Completely free performances and workshops.
  • Citizen participation through collaborative projects and community-driven works.
  • A diversity of expressions, from Afro-Caribbean dance and cimarrona music to visual art installations and poetry readings.

According to Sally Molina Villalobos, director of CPAC, “this new schedule allows us to establish robust logistics and deepen our collaboration with Limón’s communities.”

  • Guácimo: September 28–30
  • Siquirres: September 30–October 2

Afro-Caribbean Focus and Inclusion

As the heart of Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, Limón provides the perfect stage to celebrate its Afro-diasporic heritage. Highlights include:

  • Cimarrona and calypso music showcases

Through these activities, the MCJ promotes cultural diversity and territorial equity, recognizing Limón as a strategic hub for culture for all.
