  • From Cannes, Costa Rican cinema begins to cross new borders.
  • The channel will be available for one year in Spain and Portugal.

Costa Rican cinema now has its own platform in Europe. Costa Rica officially launched its channel on the streaming platform Filmin, during the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival, one of the most important audiovisual markets in the world. The channel features a selection of 20 Costa Rican feature films that will be available for one year to European audiences.

The initiative marks a milestone in the internationalization of Costa Rican audiovisual production and is the result of an alliance between the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (PROCOMER), the Costa Rican Film Commission, and the renowned Spanish platform Filmin, which has been instrumental in the promotion of Ibero-American cinema.

The curatorial proposal of the channel aims to showcase the richness and diversity of Costa Rican cinema. From intimate stories to social portraits, the selected films explore themes such as youth, gender, identity, memory, and social change.

Among the titles featured in the catalog are:

  • Memories of a Burning Body, by Antonella Sudasassi Furniss
  • I Have Electric Dreams, by Valentina Maurel
  • Clara Sola, by Nathalie Álvarez
  • The Awakening of the Ants, by Antonella Sudasassi Furniss
  • About Us, by Hernán Jiménez
  • Love is the Monster, by Neto Villalobos
  • The Skin of Water, by Patricia Velásquez
  • Rebellious Objects, by Carolina Arias Ortiz
  • Cold Water of the Sea and Journey, by Paz Fábrega

Costa Rica’s channel on Filmin not only celebrates national creativity, but also seeks to broaden the reach of these stories, bringing them to new audiences and strengthening the country’s presence in the international cinematic landscape.

The official launch took place in Cannes, an ideal setting to showcase this effort to distributors, programmers, and strategic allies. This step opens new opportunities for Costa Rican cinema, positioning itself in a key market such as Europe with a strong and diverse offering.
