Anime, manga and comic conventions are regular events in Costa Rica. Ranging from small events in towns and provinces to national wide events.
I guess fantasy and science fiction have some special power to capture people’s imaginations and devotion.
In Latin America in 90’s four anime series changed the paradigm of cartoons. Those were Ranma 1/2, Saint Seiya (Caballeros del Zodiaco in Spanish), Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball. I remember being trilled and mesmerized by the stories, content, and narratives. The issues, stakes, and events were raw and mature.
But above all. The quality of the dub was simply out of this world. Mexican artists lend their voices in outstanding performances. Those actors and actresses now regularly travel around the continent as honor guests and celebrities. Too many of these conventions.
Some years ago I found by chance in one of these such events. During the month of October, these are some of the pictures I got.
