Moravia, March 27, 2025. With the goal of exploring new opportunities in the music industry, advanced students from the National Institute of Music (INM) will have the chance to receive professional training in the fascinating world of composing and performing music for films and video games.

The Ministry of Culture and Youth, through the INM, with significant support from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), will implement a workshop during the current academic year to teach students about performing, composing, and producing music for films and video games, where they will combine their creativity with cutting-edge technology.

This initiative will become a reality thanks to CABEI’s support, through the donation of MIDI keyboards for the creation and composition of music, as well as workshops provided to students so they can receive training in composing melodies and harmonies tailored to various film and video game genres.

The workshop will last for one year and will allow students to familiarize themselves with new sound technologies, generate sound effects, create dubbing, and explore the use of artificial intelligence.

“Composing music for films and video games represents a growth opportunity for our students and for the country. Thanks to the collaboration between the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the Ministry of Culture and Youth, we are launching a highly relevant project that will allow young people to specialize in this sector, develop their personal branding, and adapt to the demands of a highly competitive international market. With this initiative, Costa Rica gains visibility in the entertainment industry, enabling national talent to access new opportunities and positioning itself as a benchmark in music creation for audiovisual media,” explained Minister of Culture Jorge Rodríguez Vives.

Meanwhile, Erwen Masís, Costa Rica’s representative at CABEI, highlighted: “CABEI recognizes the enormous potential of Costa Rican talent in the creative industry. With this contribution, we reaffirm our commitment to developing innovative capacities that allow Costa Rica to establish itself as a key player in the international film and video game industry.”

This project’s main goal is to diversify the profiles of future INM graduates, enabling them to enter new fields of employment.

“We are injecting innovation and technology into the training of INM students to differentiate their graduate profiles and expand the range of professional opportunities available to them. We are impacting more than 90 students, divided into a group focused on music composition and another group focused on performing music in real time alongside a film. Additionally, this training will be linked with workshops on personal marketing and basic finance, to contribute to the development of the country’s future professional musicians,” said Laura Jiménez, INM’s academic director.

As part of this innovative program, the Youth Symphony Orchestra will participate in the 2025 Costa Rica International Film Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Youth through the Film Center, where it will perform the soundtrack of a short film in a live concert.

CABEI has been a key partner in capacity-building efforts for the National Institute of Music. In 2023, it provided another significant contribution that allowed 43 students to attend music festivals and camps in person in Spain, Italy, England, Poland, Greece, Portugal, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, and Chile.
