“Stories from My School”: Contest Invites Students to Write About the Importance of Cooperation in the Community

The participation period for the 2025 edition of “Stories from My School” is now open! This initiative aims to foster creativity, reading, and writing among children aged 7 to 12 years old.

San José, March 19, 2025 – The “Stories from My School” contest is back for its fifth edition, inviting young writers to explore the theme “The Value of Cooperation”. This year’s topic celebrates the International Year of Cooperatives, encouraging students to reflect on the importance of working together through storytelling.

The contest is organized by the Carretica Cuentera educational initiative, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Youth, through the National Library of Costa Rica, the Ministry of Public Education, the National Child Welfare Agency (PANI), and the Center for Cooperative Studies and Training (CENECOOP).

Participants are encouraged to highlight in their stories how cooperative values can be practiced from an early age.

The submission period is open from March 19 until Friday, April 11, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in celebration of International Book Day.

The contest will reward the most creative story with books from Carretica Cuentera and surprise prizes for the first, second, and third place winners. Additionally, the top three stories will be published on Carretica Cuentera’s social media platforms.

How Can I Participate?

Interested participants can register by filling out the online form available at: https://forms.gle/ZntSwJiC2gf6QYrR9

The jury will evaluate each story based on creativity, spelling, originality, and storytelling. Submissions must be a maximum of one page in length.

The winners will be announced on April 23, 2025, via the social media channels of Carretica Cuentera, CENECOOP, and the Ministry of Culture and Youth.

Students without internet access can still participate by submitting a clear photograph of their handwritten story through a teacher, librarian, or parent. Entries should be emailed to carreticacuentera@gmail.com, including: student’s full name, school name and section, parent/guardian contact number.
