March 6, 2025. Berlin, Germany.
People traveling through the German cities of Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Cologne this month will come across a fleet of stylish electric taxis decorated with striking images of Costa Rica’s biodiversity on their doors.
This initiative is part of the ICT’s promotional efforts and complements the participation of 41 Costa Rican tourism companies at ITB 2025, held in Berlin from March 4 to 6, the world’s most important and busiest tourism trade fair.
The traditional cream or light ivory-colored Berlin taxis are roaming the historic German capital throughout March, showcasing vibrant images of Costa Rica. Their doors feature landscapes of lush nature, beaches, volcanoes, and iconic wildlife such as sloths and frogs. The visuals are accompanied by the essential Costa Rica country brand and a QR code inviting viewers to access more information on the official promotional website, visitcostarica.com, in German.
A total of 100 electric taxis featuring Costa Rica’s imagery are distributed among the cities as follows: 40 in Berlin; 10 in Frankfurt; 15 in Munich; 15 in Düsseldorf; 10 in Hamburg; and 10 in Cologne.
“ITB Berlin is one of the most important tourism fairs in the world, and our presence here is part of the ICT’s efforts to promote Costa Rica. It is particularly crucial for us to be here because Germany and the entire German-speaking market are the most important in Europe for Costa Rica. The outcomes of meetings and the participation of tourism business representatives have been spectacular, and we have high expectations for what will be achieved,” said William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism.
Carolina Trejos, ICT’s Marketing Director, further emphasized the importance of participating in ITB and the key factors that make Costa Rica appealing to German travelers.
“The German market is very specific about the type of experience it seeks. Germans love nature, visiting different destinations within our country, and typically stay for more than 17 days in Costa Rica. It’s a market we have invested in and want to maintain a strong presence in. Additionally, this fair allows us to connect with other markets such as Switzerland and Austria,” added Trejos.
A Global Tourism Business Showcase
The ITB Berlin Fair is considered the world’s leading tourism trade and business platform. This year’s edition features 5,800 exhibitors from over 170 countries at the impressive Messe Berlin exhibition center. With 59 years of history, this professional tourism event runs under the slogan “The World of Travel Lives Here” this year.
Representatives from Costa Rica will showcase the latest offerings in hospitality services, tour operations, car rentals, travel agencies, adventure tourism, wellness tourism, and more.
Visitors to the eye-catching Costa Rica stand—designed with comfortable negotiation spaces and a modern decor—will be able to visually explore the country’s top tourist attractions and enjoy a coffee-tasting area, supported by an expert barista from ICAFE.
In 2024, a total of 73,654 tourists from Germany visited Costa Rica, making it the leading European market for incoming travelers. German tourists enjoy sun and beach experiences, local gastronomy, wildlife observation, and visits to volcanoes. Their travel periods to Costa Rica are typically concentrated between January and March, July and August, and November to December.
